COVID was a big shock for the media sector in Latin America as advertising budgets were frozen. However, there was increased subscription services uptake (mainly among new players such as Netflix). Reduced purchase power and higher interest rates may decrease consumers’ appetite to spend going forward, however, and reduce companies’ ability to undertake big projects (such as M&A or technological innovations) as funding will be more difficult to secure.
